Oct 14, Amber rated it did not like it Shelves: I belong to a romance book club, and I went into Destined to Play fully expecting tk to be a hilariously bad read. Had it merely been that, I would not have bothered to write this review.

How I wish Destined to Play was just another cliche-ridden, badly-written, trashy rapemance. I mean, it is those things, but it also has its own special bra Full disclosure: I mean, it is those things, but it also has its own special brand of awfulness.

Just when you thought bad romance could go no lower, you discover a book like this.

Avalon Trilogy by Indigo Bloome

I hate this book with the burning passion of a thousand fiery suns. It holds the dubious honour of being the only book I have ever purposefully defaced. I became so infuriated with it at times that I was compelled to write commentary and criticism onto the pages as I was reading them.

It was the only way to cope with the madness. So, onto the plot. Alex, a married, middle-aged psychologist with two kids, heads off to a medical research conference whilst her husband and kids go camping in the wilderness for a week.

Her husband basically doesn’t cross her mind after this opening scene, and her kids barely do. They are named approximately three times in the entire book.

Once at the conference, Alex meets up with an ex-lover from her university days. She objects, but he threatens her, reminding her of how he physically bullied her at university when she refused to bend to his will. Let me repeat that.

Excuse me while I go hit my head against the wall for a bit. Want to know what the project is? I kid you not. Apparently all those depressed people need is a good spanking to set them right. She agrees, and he takes her to a medical facility where they use a combo of sensory deprivation, spanking and electrodes to get her off. Also, apparently the ‘hero’ has staged this whole weekend just to get her to agree to be his personal sexperiment.

So, to conclude, this book is terrible. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I would give this book I would recommend it to no one, not even to people I dislike.

No one should read this book. Please do not read it. It will make you question your faith in humanity, if humanity can produce such a book as this.

Awful isn’t strong enough to describe it. View all 16 comments.

Jul 24, Anna rated it did not like it. This is not a book you read, it’s a book you skim. Blah blah blah blah blah boring sex blah blah blah blah average sex blah blah blah blah I guess that was sex blah blah blah It would be a compliment if I said the characters were one dimensional, so I’m not going to bother. The plot is horrendously boring infigo pointless – in fact it is downright painful, I would liken the experience to stabbing myself in the eye with a teaspoon.

Further is my mortification that a publisher picked up this story for an undisclosed figure in the 6 figures. The only mildly redeeming feature this book has to offer is the flashbacks, but honestly why do Mummy Porn writers keep creating male leads I want to punch in the face?

If I had the choice I’d give this book zero stars, as it doesn’t warrant any form of acknowledgement. It makes 50 Shades of Beige look Shakespearean by contrast.

Like the author I am an Australian, and I wish I could say buy Australian, but it would be un-Australian of me to recommend you purchase a turd. View all 7 comments. Sep 02, Daisy Sloan rated it it was ok Shelves: I am completely dumfounded by this book.

This bothers me on so many levels. What makes it worse is bloomr once, she started down that path, she barely thought of her hubby or children.

The deestined that was given for the experiment of going without sight for 48 hours was plausible enough for me to go along with it. Add into that, the connection that Jeremy and Alexandra have had since university just added to the plausibility of the book.

I bought into it and went along with the ride. I liked how the author Ms. Bloome had Alexandra describe everything in sensations and how she was often not able to describe things because the sensations were too much. Bloome also did a fantastic job of relaying the anxiety that Alexandra was feeling as she went through this process that Jeremy had put her on. I found Jeremy and Alexandra to be selfish creatures.

Jeremy for manipulating Alexandra and her life to suit his needs or Alexandra for putting her husband and children out of her mind and doing as she pleased for the 10 days. The idnigo at the end of the book was excellent and intrigues me enough that I will consider reading the next one. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it were not for the cheating and barely thinking of her children. That was a HUGE obstacle that prevented me from being able to enjoy this book.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for plzy honest review. View all 12 comments. Aug 13, Hayley rated it did not like it. I was majorly disappointed in this book and found it quite disturbing. It was a slow burner in the beginning and suddenly switched full throttle into a world we know about from reading other books but not a world we expected. Ladies and gents if you’ve all read the same books as me, we all know about safe-words and this was missing!

I felt that Alex had no choice or say in what was happen I was majorly disappointed in this book and found it quite disturbing. I felt that Alex had no choice or say in what was happening and it was very one sided and Jeremy had very strange views and ideas. Not everybody likes the same books but Destined To Play was very disappointing and i for one won’t be rushing out to get the second book. Jul 18, Erin rated it did not like it. I was dared to read this book despite hloome better judgement.

So like I told many people before, over and over again, I’ll never ever EVER read Fifty Shades of Grey because from what I’ve read on amazon it was just enough to tell me it was beyond ridiculous and just. I I was dared to read this book kndigo my better judgement.

I mean, kudos to the authors writing these ‘kind’ of books and sucking people into this craze I totally respect them for their amazing success because FOR REAL they’re published authors and are earning millions by now because of these books being constantly sold out from the shelves, but. WHY are readers entertained by this?!?!

I couldn’t stop laughing at it. The main character was such a mess and while she’s jumping over her “sexy” ex-lover who gave me the chills, she knew. Mind you, this is a mother of two-something-children and by the end of the book she completely forgot about her children that she supposedly loved so, so much. I’m a total feminist here, so it goes completely against everything women stand for.

But hey – whatever floats your boat. View all 3 comments.
